Are you wondering what the No Sweat Nature Study series has to offer? Click that little tab above to find out!

Would you ever want to wander the dark forest floor of a dense jungle of a rainforest with its estimated 50,000,000 species of animals possibly hiding around every corner?

If I had a GREAT tour guide and some powerful bug spray, I might venture into the depths of a rainforest. I bet it’s incredible to see!

What if we skip the bug spray go on a modified trip to the rainforest together? We can learn amazing facts, watch really cool videos, observe the most colorful specimens you can imagine, and have some fun with rainforest experiments. It will almost be like we’re there. Almost.

Each time we venture into the rainforest, we can focus on something new and exciting:

  • What are rainforest biomes?
  • How is a tropical rainforest different from a temperate rainforest?
  • What are the layers you find in a rainforest?
  • What does biodiversity mean?
  • What are the most colorful animals you can find in rainforests?
  • Do dangerous animals live there?
  • What are some interesting rainforest plants?
  • Do medicines and spices really come from the rainforest?

I hope you’ll join me on this exciting journey! Bring along a nature notebook and some colorful sketching supplies. You won’t want to miss keeping a journal of your excursions!

Each of the lessons, appropriate for multiple ages between 1st-8th grade, includes several fun and easy options to discover the rainforest biomes. You get to decide exactly how long your “field trip” lasts as you pick and choose the learning activities. Sample plans are included to help you make the most of the curriculum.

What is No Sweat Nature Study?

Have you ever wished for a nature study that simply didn’t require any outdoor time?

No packing of bags full of nature journals and sunblock.

No half-days spent driving to and from the nature trails.

No whining about the temperature that’s either too hot or too cold.

Well, it’s here.

The No Sweat Nature Study series allows you to teach nature-based lessons from the comfort of your home or classroom using an amazing variety of fresh resources that will make a deep scientific impact on your students.

Through the use of kid-friendly, hand-selected videos, websites, online images, and books, you can teach nature study topics to multiple ages in short bursts of time.

Wait. Some of you are die-hard fans of “real” nature study – the outdoor kind – and you’re wondering how this curriculum could be legit, aren’t you?

Trust me when I say I am all for getting outdoors for real-life nature study. In fact, nature walks have been a weekly habit around our house for years and years now – and they’ve made a huge difference in our homeschool.

Some people just don’t like getting outside, though. Others struggle with time, energy, health, or climate issues. Some are attempting to teach nature study in co-ops or classrooms without options to get outdoors frequently.

I want everyone to have the opportunity to study in-depth nature topics, and this curriculum is just about as close to real life nature walks as you can get without going outside.

But, don’t stop reading just yet my “real” nature study friend. YOU can benefit from this curriculum, too! It’s a great way to add some depth and understanding to things you’re already discovering in the field during your nature walks.

Whether your a fan of nature walks or not, you’ll find this series to provide you with a unique method to experience nature study!

  • You get to choose exactly how much and what you study as you work through eight lessons.
  • The activities are leveled for difficulty, while allowing you the opportunity to do more or less depending on the interests and abilities of your students.
  • Whether you do a little or a lot from each lesson, rest assured that serious nature-based science will be learned.

This curriculum is perfect to add to a morning time routine. It’s also perfect to use once-a-week as a supplement to your regular science curriculum. If you choose to do all the lessons and really dig deep within each, you could use No Sweat Nature Study as your complete science curriculum for whichever topics you choose. How you choose to use it is really up to you!

Written with 1st-8th graders in mind, the topics are really very in-depth. Using kid-size terminology and resources, I think you’ll be surprised and excited about how much scientific information your students are able to absorb!

When my boys were little, I loved reading these “letters from God” to them as blessings to start the day.
As I was sorting bookshelves earlier this month, I stumbled across this sweet book again. I decided the blessings are still as pertinent today for my bigger boy as they were years ago. So, we’re starting our day yet again with a quick, but powerful “letter from God” before jumping into our daily Bible studies.
Do you do anything special to start your day off on the right foot? I’d love to hear about it!
Click the link in my bio for a link to the book.

Winter homeschooling can be tough in normal years. Winter homeschooling can be tough in normal years. It’s cold, the days are dark, and everyone’s cooped up together 24/7. That’s a recipe for the winter blahs to march right into your house and wreak havoc on attitudes and motivation.⠀
⠀
This year’s winter is unlike any other and those blahs may have actually settled in long before now. If you or your children are feeling down, anxious, or bored with school, are “at” each other constantly, bouncing off the walls, or tears and fighting are the norm…the blahs are there.⠀
⠀
Let’s get you, your children, and your homeschool back on track. I’ll be teaching a Homeschool Masterclass on Thursday afternoon to help you kick the blahs to the curb. If you can attend live, come! If you can’t attend live, catch the replay!⠀
⠀
We’ll tackle all sorts of problems the blahs bring with them with very practical ideas that are easy to implement! ⠀
⠀
Click the link in my bio to join me. There is no shame in admitting that the blahs have arrived and you need a little boost from a friend. ❤️ ⠀

Oh, what peace this quote brings to my soul. It’ Oh, what peace this quote brings to my soul. It’s true, you know. I’ve told my children for years that it only takes a nature walk to see God through His handiwork and to know that His promises are true.⠀
⠀
When the world seems to be falling apart around you, the sun never stops shining. The seasons never stop moving. Without a single, solitary effort of human hands, the woodlands still buzz with life.⠀
⠀
A student of nature can see the consistency in cycles and notice the incredible and creative intricacy of even the smallest specimen and be in awe that we truly serve a God who isn’t unaware of even one tiny detail in our world right now. ⠀
⠀
Life kind of seems overwhelming, though, I know. Remember when I said my motto lately has been to just put one foot in front of the other to do the next right thing? Nature walks (even when it’s cold) never fail me as a right thing. ⠀
⠀
Breathe, friend. Take a nature walk today and let God speak to your soul.⠀

It might seem trite to post a winter picture book It might seem trite to post a winter picture book list right now, but I’m a big believer in keeping things as normal as possible in my home when things aren’t so normal otherwise.⠀
⠀
It’s the principle of putting one foot in front of the other as you simply do the next right thing. Good books almost always can be a “next right thing” choice.⠀
⠀
Even though I’m not homeschooling younger children anymore, I’ll probably never stop sharing wonderful picture book ideas with you. 🤓 I’ve spent way too many hours reading and collecting to ever stop loving them!⠀
⠀
Eli and I may not be using these books right now, but they are still some of my favorites for winter reading. Whatever may be going on around you, the winter months are always a good time of year to get in lots of extra reading. Snuggling and hot chocolate are optional, but encouraged.⠀
⠀
Click the link in my bio to find a blog post about these books + some of our favorite winter chapter books, too!⠀
