Rather than lengthy explanations, multiple examples, or repetitive practice, it provides a gentle, literature-based approach to integrating grammar, spelling, and other language arts skills into everyday learning.
The activities provide clear directions (such as “underline the verb” or “combine the sentences”), assuming students already have some familiarity with these concepts. If a student needs more instruction before practicing, parents are encouraged to:
- Review the “Skills Covered” section at the beginning of the curriculum.
- Use free online resources such as YouTube videos or educational websites for mini-lessons on new or challenging concepts.
Use it as a semester-long curriculum, or follow the suggested “week on, week off” schedule for a year-round, balanced approach. The off-weeks are a great time to explore creative writing, copywork, phonics, grammar games, or extra reading. (Note: off-week activities are not included.)

I was super intrigued by this product because of its focus on grammar. There are so many resources for studying living books – many of them amazing – but often they focus merely on content and comprehension, which is just one part of language arts. What I loved best about these lessons it that they are very firmly rooted in skills – both practicing and learning and they show kids how these skills are used in real settings.
The grammar packs contain a list of skills covered and it is extensive and thorough. I appreciated, too, how every week was different but similar. It isn’t the same skills practiced in every pack, though some skills do carry over, like spelling. I also loved how many lessons had graphic organizer options, because I find them to be such a helpful and useful tool to prepare kids for future writing and to organize their thoughts.
These are a solid choice for grammar and will help to encourage your kids by using engaging and entertaining living books.
