Description
Spring is the perfect season to get your little ones out and about for active learning as the plant and animal world comes alive after a long winter.
Nature by the Season: Spring is the perfect mix of learning and fun for preschool and kindergarten children. It takes advantage of all the exciting changes of spring to promote wonder, observation skills, science concepts, and much more.
The activity guide covers five main topics and several subtopics:
- Weather – snow, rain, storms, wind, clouds
- Animals – birds, mammals, amphibians, insects
- Plants – deciduous trees and bushes, evergreens, wildflowers, fungi and mosses
- The Ground – rocks, soil, waterways
For each subtopic, you will find a few nature walk suggestions, each with at least one follow-up activity to do indoors. Sometimes the follow-up activity is a game, experiment or recipe; other times it’s a reproducible worksheet. Most of the full-color worksheets are hands-on and fun, while promoting skills like cutting, sorting, counting and more.
Please don’t feel obligated to do the follow-up activities – just exploring nature is enough! (Even though I think your PK/K children will LOVE them.)
Here are two examples of the nature walks and follow-up activities you’ll find.
After using a magnifying glass to observe early wildflowers, come home to play flower memory using game pieces provided for you.
After observing an ant hill, come home to practice counting by threes as you create thumbprint ant artwork.
In all, there are more than 100 activity suggestions! Not to mention, I’ve included a complete list of the best living literature, poetry and field guides perfect for young children.
Through the fun and varied activities, your PK/K will soak in all sorts of learning and find spring to be a wondrous season!
