40 Nature Walks: Outdoor Science Labs On-the-Go, Vol. 2 is just as the name suggests. Print any page, head out the door, and the worksheet will take care of the rest.
This print-and-go curriculum will keep your 8-13 year old students focused on specific, educational tasks during nature walks.
Each single page is a new science adventure that challenges your children to become serious students of nature. They will develop a wide array of skills including:
- detailed observation
- comparison
- prediction
- measuring
- graphing
- charting
- mapping
- experimentation
- diagramming
- sketching
- research
The fun worksheets turn your students into nature detectives and place them in the field with serious science labs that prompt them in unique discoveries.
This curriculum is easy for the parent or teacher. You simply print a lab sheet for each student and read over it to see if you need to pack anything other than a clipboard and pencils. Then out the door you go.
Some of the nature lab sheets can even be completed independently by your children, meaning thereโs a distinct possibility you could send children into the backyard while you fold a load of laundry. Of course, itโs always best if the parent or teacher guides the discovery and makes herself available for questions โ or just shares in the excitement of finding or learning something new.
You may pick and choose any of the 40 lab pages you like since they donโt need to be completed in any specific order.
Many times, youโll find that a specific page can be used on more than one occasion by visiting different venues or observing different specimens. Even if you donโt reuse them, there are more than enough meaningful activities to get you through an entire school year of weekly nature walks.
Much more than regular โnature notebooking pages,โ these nature walks will keep your students engaged in serious science. The worksheets help them to record their in-depth scientific discoveries, while still allowing plenty of the typical hands-on exploration that is the hallmark of nature study.
Important notes:
- 49 pages
- digital curriculum
- black and white printables, no color printing necessary
- acceptable content for charter schools
Melissa Brander –
We loved these 40 Nature Walks. Things I loved about them:
*How many different ideas there were. The walks are even categorized by topic/subject area so you can pull one in for a specific reason – like language arts or math
*The walks promote close and careful observation of nature
*The variety they provide – if you feel like every time you go outside is the same, these nature walks will give you plenty of options
*Some walks also provide additional resources – like books to follow up
*Many of the walks encourage your child to do additional research into what they have found – which I super appreciate, it makes it a great way to elevate your walk and make it more than just a one time experience if that’s what you are seeking.
With 40 walks, there’s enough to keep you busy for quite a while – and walks are easily repeatable during different times of year and at different places. Very solid option!
