Well, now that I’m back in the Mom’s Room at co-op, I’ll be sharing on my blog some of what I share there. One of the topics this week concerned homeschoolers and exercise. It’s very easy as homeschoolers to leave this “subject” out, but we’re not exempt from living lives that are too sedentary. So, without actually taking a course called P.E., we talked about many ways homeschoolers can get exercise.

Fun and Free

have your children play outdoors daily – yep, making snowmen counts for exercise!

turn on some peppy music and dance around together for 20 minutes

nature hikes

playground

local basketball, baseball, volleyball and tennis courts

daily walks or bike rides around the neighborhood

gardening

ask a local church for use of it’s activity center once a month/week and gather some homeschooling friends for active games

chores!

Inexpensive

aerobics/light weight training DVD’s

play a team sport

go swimming, play putt-putt – anything similar in your area with a minimal cost

A little expensive, but nice if your budget allows

older kids can work out along side you at the local gym

Wii Fit

karate, ballet, gymnastics or other active classes

Dance Mats that attach to TV – be careful of music and moves from people on the screen

trampoline

join a “gym n’ swim” class at the local recreation facility

laser-tag, skiing, snow tubing, rope challenges, rock climbing wall – or anything similar in your area

a trip to the zoo or another fun field trip where walking is a must

I’d love to hear your ideas, too – especially for the Fun and Free section!
