Signs of Drought

It’s hard to believe that just a couple of months after one of the wettest spring’s and early summer’s we’ve had in a while, we now sit in the midst of an incredible drought.

But any nature lovin’ momma knows how to turn lemons into lemonade – we’ve completed several drought walks that have led to wonderful discussions about water supplies, underground water, springs, animal life, plant life, dormancy, migration and so much more!

In fact, you might be surprised to know that our Remarkable Rain study touches on the topic of droughts. Other units that would be useful during a drought include Animal Signs, Everchanging Erosion, and even Peaceful Ponds and Incredible Creeks. Other studies would tie in nicely, too, but these are probably the most pertinent.

Now on to some of the pictures we’ve taken simply walking around our farm…

One of our ponds - bone dry

Our yard

Trees purging their dry leaves

The creek at least six feet below normal

Our cattle pasture

Another view of our pastures - amazingly, weeds along the fence line still grow very well!

How’s the weather in your neck of the woods?
